Hi, I’m Jackie.
I'm a Suffolk wedding photographer, and I photograph weddings for couples who want to spend their day celebrating, laughing and being with the people they love, rather than spending hours posing for photographs.
My style is relaxed, natural and documentary-led. I like to let things happen rather than constantly interrupting them, watching what's going on around me and being ready when those little moments happen. The glance between you, the reaction from your mum, your best mate making everyone laugh, the things you didn't even realise I was there to capture.
And if you're not particularly comfortable in front of a camera, don't worry. You're definitely not alone. Most of my couples tell me they aren't "photo people". I won't leave you wondering what you're supposed to do, but neither will I spend your wedding barking instructions at you. After more than 8 years and 150 weddings, I've learned how to help people relax, have a laugh and forget the camera is there.
Your wedding isn't a photoshoot. It's one of the biggest days of your life. I'm there to preserve it, not direct it.
A few other things about me:
I have a slight obsession with the sky.
I'm always looking up. Dramatic clouds, incredible sunsets, a rainbow appearing at just the right moment... I love it all. So although I'm not going to be directing your day, I will always have one eye on what's happening above us.
If the conditions suddenly become spectacular, I'll probably get quite excited and suggest we take a few minutes to make the most of it. This is where my love of landscape photography comes into play, and where we might create one of those big, wall-worthy photographs alongside all the natural moments from your day.
I'm a bit obsessed with the Northern Lights too.
I've spent years teaching myself how to read the space weather forecasts and understand when the conditions might be right for the Aurora Borealis. I've even photographed the Northern Lights from my own garden in Suffolk, which still feels slightly ridiculous when I think about it.
Landscape photography is a big part of my life.
When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll often find me somewhere with a camera, usually looking for dramatic landscapes and interesting light. I also work alongside my husband, a professional landscape photographer, helping to run landscape photography tours and workshops in the UK and abroad.
And then there's Iceland...
It's my favourite place to photograph. The landscapes, the weather, the light, the sheer wildness of it all. I love it so much that when it came to our own wedding, my husband and I decided to forget the big traditional celebration and elope there instead.
We got married in a little black church in Snaefellsnes, surrounded by the Icelandic landscape we both love. It was completely our kind of wedding, and probably explains why I'm so passionate about couples doing things their own way.
I’m a people watcher.
I'm fascinated by people and the way they interact. I love watching what's happening around me and anticipating those split-second moments before they happen, so I'm already in the right place when they do.
That's probably one of the reasons documentary photography suits me so well. I don't need everything to be perfectly planned. In fact, some of my favourite photographs happen when nobody is expecting them.
I'm easygoing, love to have fun and always up for a bit of spontaneity. I'll be guided by you and what you want from your day, but if I spot something special, whether that's an incredible bit of light, some dramatic weather or a moment unfolding in front of me, I'll be ready.
And finally...
My photography has taken me beyond weddings too. I'm a photography judge for the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies, travelling to camera clubs across East Anglia to judge competitions and share my knowledge and experience.
But ultimately, I'm just someone who loves photography, loves people and loves being in the right place at the right time with my camera - and probably a mug of coffee!
If that sounds like someone you'd like alongside you on your wedding day, I think we might get on rather well.
